Poole RNLI Lifeboat Station will be holding its annual Open Day on Sunday 8 August from 11am until 4pm. Come and meet the lifeboat crew and show your support towards the RNLI.

During the Open Day, RNLI supporters and members of the public will have the opportunity to look around the all-weather and inshore lifeboats and the rescue equipment, and also meet the voluntary crew members who help save lives at sea.

Members of the RNLI’s lifeguard service from Poole and Bournemouth beaches will also be present, along with members of other emergency services – HM Coastguard and the Fire Service.

Rescue demonstrations by the lifeboat and RNLI lifeguards will take place during the day and this will give the public a rare glimpse of the training given within the RNLI. Watch what happens when there’s an explosion on the tug …

Meet the lifeboat crew, lifeguards and RNLI’s Sea Safety Team, who can all offer valuable advice on how to stay safe on the Dorset coast this Summer. Meet the RNLI’s mascot Stormy Stan too!

Rod Brown, RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager at Poole Lifeboat Station, says:

‘We would like to invite the people of Poole and any visitors to the area to come along and take part in this open day at our lifeboat station. It will give everyone the chance to meet our volunteer crew who, last year, were the busiest lifeboat crew on the coast of the UK and RoI, carrying out 200 rescues.

‘It’s a chance to have a nose around and to ask the team questions about our work around the coast along with teams from other emergency services. We’d love to see as many people as possible so get the date in your diary and enjoy a good day out.’

Other attractions throughout the day include lifeboat souvenirs for sale, stalls, raffle, fun games, refreshments and a barbeque, airbrush tattoos and face painting. Crowds may also get the opportunity to see a fly past of the Red Arrows as they make their way to Ireland.

So come along, join the RNLI lifeboat crew for a great family day out and show your support towards the charity that saves lives at sea.
