This year’s annual lifeboat week in Bude is 28 August to 5 September and, as always, promises a variety of activities and events for all to enjoy.

Organised solely by volunteers of the Bude committee, guild and crew, the annual event helps to raise much needed funds for the RNLI.

Starting on Saturday 28 August there will be a charity table-top sale in the marquee on the castle grounds, followed by a fun quiz night with a licensed bar.

For the kids on Sunday 29 is a disco and games (2pm – 4pm) – all children to be accompanied by an adult. On Sunday evening is the traditional choir evening from 8pm, this year with Wadebridge Male Voice Choir and Liskerett Male Voice Choir.

And then it’s the big day, Lifeboat Day, on Monday 30 August – a day not to be missed, starting at 10am with 'Canal Capers' and morning coffee, and culminating with a grand firework display at 9.30pm.

This year’s RNLI demonstration will be at 10.45am and will involve an impressive display of skills by Bude lifeboat crew and, all being well, the RAF search and rescue helicopter.

Don’t forget there will be events throughout the day around the canal and castle grounds including Bude Metric Brass, a lifeboat capsize drill in the canal, the infamous pasty competition and a kids’ treasure hunt on the beach. Cream teas will be served in the marquee from 2.30pm onwards and then there’s the Duck Race at 6pm – buy your tickets from the marquee over the weekend or the event caravan on Lifeboat Day!

After the duck race, a family disco at 6.30pm will be followed with music by Blue Slate with a licensed bar, all in the marquee on the castle grounds, and finishing off the day will be the grand firework finale at 9.30pm.

From Wednesday 1 to Saturday 4 September there will be a craft fair in the marquee for which the organiser makes a donation to the RNLI. This year’s ‘Songs of Praise’ will start at the earlier time of 3pm on Sunday 5.

Most of the events will be held in the marquee on the castle grounds but look out for posters and programmes around town or visit www.budelifeboat.co.uk for more information.

The event is run entirely by the volunteers of Bude lifeboat – if you would like to help in any way (maybe collecting or with an event), please contact Chairman Paul Finn on 01288 356256. Come along with your friends and family and support the RNLI in Bude – it’s guaranteed you’ll have fun and Bude RNLI look forward to seeing you.
