How it works

How it works

Hourly reports are automatically sent to the RNLI operations room giving the fishing boats GPS position, heading and speed. If contact is lost, the system alerts in the operations centre. If contact cannot be re-estbalished or the vessel confirmed as 'safe' details are passed to the Coastguard for appropriate action.

Step 1

MOB guardian device

The Personal Safety Device (PSD) is worn whilst working on deck, this is constantly in radio contact with the base unit.

Step 2

Man overboard

Falling overboard breaks the radio link and automatically triggers an onboard alarm.

Step 3

Position of the casualty

An alert is sent to the RNLI typically within three minutes of the man going overboard.

Step 4

RNLI lifeboat

This enables the emergency services to initiate a search and rescue operation immediately.
