MOB Guardian

The bulk of accidents leading to fatalities among fishermen involve the loss of a fishing vessel or a man overboard. To address this, the RNLI developed and trialed a confidential position reporting system (CPRS) that used satellite technology to receive regular updates from fishing vessels. In the event of an emergency the RNLI would be alerted and would be able to pinpoint the vessel's last known position. This system was further developed to incorporate man overboard personal safety devices, and became the commercial safety device MOB Guardian.

What is MOB Guardian?

MOB Guardian is an 'always-on' system that doesn't rely on saltwater immersion to be activated. As soon as the vessel goes to sea, the unit aboard logs onto the RNLI system via satellite link.
