It's not too early to think about organising your own fundraising event for SOS Day 2012. Here’s some ideas to get you started!

Across the country, hundreds of people are expected to take part in indoor rowathons to help save lives at sea on SOS day. Keep your eyes peeled on our events map for rowathons which will be popping up all over the country. You can take part in an organised event or get friends, family and colleagues together and do your own sponsored event at your local gym, social club or group.

Got a great talent that you can share with others for a donation? Could you hold a flower demonstration, cookery master class, a gardening hints and tips session, or teach others to ballroom dance? Anything goes with this fundraising idea. An added bonus would be if your participants could use their newly leant skills to continue the fundraising effort. For example, you teach others to bake scrummy cakes, they make a donation for your time, then go forth and bake cakes to sell to others.

Offer to wash your friends cars or set up a car wash station in your neighbourhood! Charge a donation for sparkly clean cars.

This is the easiest fundraising idea of them all! Organise some sandwiches at your local club or church hall for a spot of lunch. Or in the evening, Share Our Supper and invite people to enjoy a feast that you have prepared. Ask them to donate what they would usually have paid in a restaurant for your meal.

Clear out your unwanted books, CDs and DVDs and hold a swapping party. Charge an entry fee, along with a fixed price per item. As well as getting some great new reads and music, you’ll help make a difference to saving lives at sea.
