Why Support Us

The RNLI is a registered charity that has saved over 139,000 lives at sea since it was founded in 1824. By raising funds on SOS day you’ll help to ensure that our volunteer crew members and lifeguards can continue to provide our lifesaving service.

Here are just a few ways in which the money you raise could help save lives at sea.

RNLI flag£24 could offset the cost of a pair of Red and Yellow flags. These indicate the area on a beach where Lifeguards are patrolling and are a vital part of lifeguard kit, but one that is often taken for granted.

RNLI wateproof binoculars£53 is the cost of a pair of waterproof binoculars. Used by both Lifeboat crew and Lifeguards, these are an essential piece of lifesaving kit.

RNLI helmet£166 could buy an RNLI-designed safety helmet and protect a crew members’ head from the worst a cruel sea can throw at them.

   Lifejacket image
£350 could pay for a new style ALB lifejacket and £330 could meet the cost of a new ILB lifejacket – both designed specifically to meet the RNLI’s current search and rescue operational requirements

Lifeguard image£494 could equip an RNLI lifeguard for a year from their speedos to their first aid kit and rescue tube, ensuring they have everything they need to provide safety cover for beach users.

Crew image£1,266 could cover the annual training costs for one of our volunteer crew members, ensuring they are fully equipped with the knowledge to save lives at sea.
