RNLI lifeboat stations across the south west are celebrating in the success of the charity’s SOS Day on Friday 27 January, as crew, lifeguards and supporters raised vital funds towards the RNLI’s lifejacket campaign, which aims to fund the provision of new, state of the art lifejackets at all 35 lifeboat stations in the region.
It was an early start for the five volunteer lifeboat crew from Penlee in Cornwall, as they set off from Plymouth RNLI lifeboat station to tackle the 125 miles back to their lifeboat station in Newlyn...

Memorial for victims of Morecambe Bay helicopter crash

Volunteer RNLI crew members from Lytham and Fleetwood today joined family and friends of the seven men aboard the helicopter which ditched into the Irish sea on the night of 27 December 2006.
The memorial sited on the promenade near Fleetwood Lifeboat Station will be a lasting tribute to the men who tragically lost their lives at Christmas 5 years ago...

On the RNLI SOS Day, Friday 27 January, the crew and volunteers at Fleetwood lifeboat station and shop opened the doors to local folk of Fleetwood to show them around the station and lifeboats.
A few weeks previously, the crew had put out ther own SOS asking the people of Fleetwood to help them fund the new lifejackets and appealed to them to help raise the £3,000 needed for the jackets...

Two Shoreham lifeboat crewmen have received awards from the RNLI for their actions during a mid-Channel collision between a yacht and a beam trawler.
Steve Smith, who is the new Shoreham lifeboat coxswain, and second mechanic Simon Tugwell have each been presented with framed letters of thanks signed by RNLI Chairman Admiral the Lord Boyce for the rescue last August...
