Phillip Duffield - LOM

Philip Dutfield - LOM

Phil is Lifeboat Operations Manager, and joined the station in 1989 through The Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme.  During his time at Penarth Lifeboat Station he has enjoyed many roles, as a Crew Member, a Helmsman and the Station Treasurer.  As the Treasurer, Phil was often amazed by the generosity from members of the public. As the Lifeboat Operations Manager, Phil considers that his experience within the Institution will be an advantage to this position.

Rod Hill - Deputy launching authority

Rod Hill - Deputy launching authority

Rod is a Deputy Launching Authority, he joined the crew in 1992. A manager of sign making company, Rod was a crew member until 2000 and then took the position of DLA. He enjoys rowing, surfing occasionally and spending time with his family.

Laurie Pavelin - Deputy Launching Authority and Lifeboat Sea Safety Officer

Laurie Pavelin - Deputy Launching Authority and Lifeboat Sea Safety Officer

Laurie joined the crew in 2005. He is the Principal of the RYA sailing school at Penarth Yacht Club and when not teaching powerboating and dinghy sailing, relaxes by going cruiser sailing.  If you want any free help or advice on sea safety equipment for your boat contact him at laurie.pavelin@btinternet.com

Atual Rayani - Lifeboat medical advisor

Atual has been the Lifeboat Medical Advisor since 2001. He is a local GP. Having grown up in Penarth he developed an interest in maritime activities, and is happy to be part of a team who support the community.

Jamie Morgans - Station Visits Coordinator

Jamie Morgans - Station Visits Coordinator

Jamie is the Lifeboat Training Coordinator, he joined the station in 1994. A Leisure Services Manager, he is a former Helm of Penarth’s two Inshore lifeboats. Outside of work and Lifeboating Jamie runs his own Leisure Training Consultancy. He enjoys watching and playing all forms of sport and has found a new passion in cookery.

Andy Petersen - Chairman of Penarth station

Andy Petersen - Chairman of Penarth station

Andy has been the Chairman at Penarth Lifeboat Station since July 2007. He joined the station as a DLA in 1998 and also took on the role of Station Training Co-ordinator. He has also held the post of Lifeboat Operations Manager.

Karl Lawrence - Helmsman and Lifeboat Training Coordinator

Karl Lawrence - Helmsman and Lifeboat Training Coordinator

Karl is a Helmsman, and has been part of the crew since 1989. A civil engineer, Karl has worked for the Local Highway Authority for 30 years who readily allow him time off to attend shouts. He has been a member of Penarth Yacht Club since 1980 and has won honours in dinghy sailing at National level. Much of his time afloat now involves teaching the newer crew members.

Ian Mock - Crew member

Ian Mock - Crew member

Ian has been a Crew Member since 2007. A full time parent and landlord, he enjoys keeping fit with sessions at the gym and pool, cycling and playing tennis. In his spare time he acts as a 24 hour taxi service and mobile cash machine for his children.

Jason Dunlop - Helmsman

Jason Dunlop - Helmsman

Jason is a Helmsman, and joined the crew in 2003. He is General Manager of Cardiff University Students’ Union, and is also part of the flood response team from Wales. In 2007 he spent 3 days in the Midlands as a part of the RNLI flood response team.

Mark Bow - Crew member

Mark Bow - Crew member

Mark has been a Crew Member since 2007. He is a firefighter, keen rubgy player and enjoys reading and keeping fit. Before joining the fire service he served in the Royal navy for 7 years as an Able Seaman (Mine Warfare).

Andrew Vye-Parminter - Helmsman

Andrew Vye-Parminter - Helmsman

Andrew is a Helmsman, and joined the crew in 1993. He is Deputy Harbour Master for Cardiff Harbour Authority. He has been involved in flood relief work with the RNLI prior to the establishment of the Flood Rescue teams, both in the late 1990s in the Hereford, Gloucester and Tewkesbury areas and also as part of the team that was deployed to Mozambique in March 2000.

Jim Mayer - Helmsman

Jim Mayer - Helmsman

Jim is a Helmsman, and joined Penarth crew in 2003. He is a polar guide and cruise lecturer. His boating experience comes from driving RIBs in the Arctic and Antarctic.  He travels regularly to both regions and gives many lectures and talks each year, for more information visit www.jimmayer.co.uk.

Graeme Jones - Helmsman

Graeme Jones - Helmsman

‘Pikey’ is a Helmsman. He joined the crew aged 16 in 2004 through the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, and for many years was the youngest crewmember. A paramedic, he enjoys outdoor adrenalin fuelled sports, motorsports which he sometimes competes in and looking after his daughter.

Ben is a Crew Member, and joined the station in 2007. He is a mechanical apprentice at a local power station.

Nathan Cummins - Crew member

Nathan is a Crew Member, he joined the station in 1998.

Jon Russill - Crew member

Jon Russill - Crew member

Jon has been a Crew Member since 2005. He works on international projects as an Exploration Geologist looking for mineral deposits.  He also organises expeditions in the Arctic, and in 2006 carried an RNLI flag on an expedition to the North Pole!

Chris Youde - Shore helper

Chris Youde - Shore helper

Chris is a Shore Helper, and has been part of the station since 1989. He was a crewmember until moving out of the immediate area led to him taking up his current role on station. He works for a car insurance company.

Dave Horgan

Dave Horgan - Shore helper

"Big Dave" joined the crew in 2011, having previously been involved with the station. He is training to act as a tractor driver and shore helper, and is a local government officer.

Owain Davies - Crew member

Owain Davies - Crew member

Owain is a Crew Member, he joined the station in 2008. He is Creative Director at Techniquest, a local science centre. Before joining Penarth station he was a crew member at Fishguard and Goodwick in the mid-1990s.

Jen Payne - Crew member

Jen Payne - Crew member

Jen is a Crew Member, she joined the station in 2008. She is a Stage and Event manager ,and in her spare time Jen crews on the boat Lewis Alexander to Flatholm Island, enjoys sailing, playing squash, running, and spending as much time as possible outdoors.

Sarah Mayer - Crew member

Sarah Mayer - Crew member

Sarah joined the crew in 2003 with a background in dinghy sailing and boat driving for Arctic expeditions.  She runs her own travel business and when not in Penarth she can usually be found sailing or skiing in cold places.  Sarah is also a member of the RNLI's Flood Rescue Team.

Geraint Williams

Geraint joined the crew in 2009, and was attracted by the idea of doing voluntary work mixed in with helping people. His hobbies include golf and mountain biking.

Dan Forbes - Prospective crew member

Dan Forbes - Prospective crew member

Dan is a Prospective Crew Member, joining in 2009. A personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach, Dan grew up on the west Wales coast and loves surfing. In his spare time he can be found either walking his dogs or playing his guitar.

Jason Sidford - Prospective crew member

James is a Crew member. He originally joined the station in 2000, before relocating abroad in 2005. He rejoined in 2009, and is a salesperson in a local bike shop.

Alex Kalebic

Alex Kalebic - Prospective crew member

Alex is a Prospective Crew Member. He originally joined the station in 2001, before leaving the station in 2006 to work offshore. He rejoined in summer 2010, and is a Chartered Surveyor who specialises in retail and leisure.

Kath Fisher

Kath Fisher - Prospective crew member

Kath is a prospective crew member. She grew up in Penarth and first joined the RNLI in 1993 and was shore crew she went to university in 1996. After a 6 year career in the RAF she is now a police officer on the beat in Barry.

Richard Hay

Richard Hay - Prospective crew member

Richard is a prospective crew member. He was a Warfare Officer in the Royal Navy and always wanted to join the RNLI after having grown up with members of the family having always been in the RNLI since his great grandfather.

Matt Church

Matt Church - Prospective crew member

Matt is a prospective crew member that joined the station in 2010. Having grown up on the West Wales Coast and with a little brother being a keen crew member in Little Haven, Matt wasn’t going to be outdone!
A Marketing and Business Development Consultant, Matt enjoys keeping fit, world travel and motorsport with motorcycle racing top of the list!
