Rock History
Before an RNLI lifeboat station was established at Rock in 1994, many rescues took place off the coast and in the River Camel Estuary.
1993 The Padstow Harbour Commissioners approached the RNLI proposing the need for an inshore lifeboat to cover the River Camel Estuary. Harlyn private rescue service had previously operated a service but was no longer operating any boats. Incidents occurring inside the Doom Bar were being dealt with by other local vessels.
In November the RNLI’s Committee of Management agreed that a D class inshore lifeboat station would be established at Rock.
1994 An inshore lifeboat (ILB) station was established. The station was placed on the northern side of the river. A D class lifeboat was sent to Rock on 4 March for one season's evaluation.
1995 The station was permanently established as an all year round ILB station from 8 April.
A new D class lifeboat, D-489, was placed on service on 27 September.
1997 A new boathouse was completed in June providing housing for the lifeboat and launching vehicle.
2005 A new IB1-type D class, D-634 Rusper, arrived at the station in February.
