    Thurso is the RNLI's most northerly lifeboat station on mainland Scotland. Today's Severn class lifeboat launches into the often turbulent seas of the Pentland Firth. The crews have been presented with 17 awards for gallantry, the most recent in 2004.

      A former Olympian PATRICK WINTERTON and former British kayaking champion MICK BERWICK will attempt to make the first kayak crossing from Scotland to the Faroe Islands unsupported in June. Few have tried, no one, as yet, has succeeded.
