West Kirby History

1966  An inshore lifeboat (ILB) station was established in June with a D class lifeboat.

1989 The lifeboat crew were awarded the Bronze Medal of the RSPCA for Animal Lifesaving when they rescued two horses trapped in deep mud at West Kirby on 10 April 1988.

1990 The boathouse was seriously damaged by flooding during severe storms in February.

1991 A new boathouse was built further back in Coronation Gardens to protect it from flooding. As well as housing the lifeboat and launching vehicle, it provides a crew room, office and workshop.

The ILB can be towed to various launching sites and on 14 January the D class lifeboat was launched 14 miles from her station on a lake at Walton Hall Park to rescue a boy who had fallen through the ice and was suffering from hypothermia.

2003 The new station D class lifeboat, D-612 Dave and Trevor Jones was placed on service on 9 December.
