RNLI 2011 Christmas e-card competition
THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY
Could your Christmas card design help save lives at sea? Our crews need your help!
What will you be doing this Christmas? At 4.30pm on Christmas Eve 2010, the volunteer crew of RNLI Kessock were paged to launch their RNLI lifeboat.
Moments beforehand a red flare had been sighted from the Rosemarkie Golf Course. A member of the public dialled 999 and alerted HM Coastguard. It was already dark when the crew launched their lifeboat, The Moray Dolphin. It was calm, but very, very cold.
Avoiding large chunks of ice, the volunteer crew searched for the next hour under moonlight, until Aberdeen Coastguard decided that the 999 call was a false alarm.
RNLI volunteer Helmsman Dougie Grant said: ‘Whilst many people are thinking about travelling home on Christmas eve and enjoying the festive season, us guys at Kessock - like all the RNLI volunteers around the UK and RoI - will be ready whatever time of day or night to go to the aid of people in distress at sea this Christmas.’
The charity that save lives at sea

The RNLI is a charity that provides a 24/7 lifesaving service around the UK and RoI. Our volunteer crews give up their time and comfort to carry out rescues in difficult and often dangerous conditions. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboats and lifeguards have saved more than 139,000 lives.
Check out some of our rescues here or find out more about the charity at our website home page.
Over to you

School pupils can help us save more lives at sea - and win a prize - by designing a new Christmas card, which will be available through our website. You can see what the current e-cards look like here.
