Galway History

1994 The Executive Committee decided to establish an inshore lifeboat (ILB) station at Galway City.

1996 A B class Atlantic 21 lifeboat was placed on temporary station duty at Galway on 27 March. The ILB was kept in a temporary boathouse in the dock area of the city and crew accommodation was provided on the quayside. A new launching davit was also installed on the quay.

1997 A permanent boathouse was built.

A new Atlantic 75 lifeboat, B-738 Dóchas, was placed on service on 3 September. This was funded by the Galway City Appeal.
