Enniskillen History
2001 7 February:
A public meeting was held on 7 February to discuss establishing a lifeboat station on Lough Erne. The RNLI had been working with the existing Lough Erne Rescue Organisation over a long period of time.
24 May:
The RNLI’s first inland lifeboat station was set up at Enniskillen for evaluation trials. A B class Atlantic 21 lifeboat was placed on service on the Lower Lough.
2002 The lifeboat station was formally established on 4 July. Because of the overall size and complexity of Lough Erne, plus the high level of leisure use, it was decided to base a second lifeboat on the Upper Lough to work in conjunction with the original lifeboat stationed on the Lower Lough.
The B class lifeboats, B-581 Andrew Mason and B-592 Ernest Armstrong, operate at Enniskillen lifeboat station.
