A rosy idea

Buy this special rose as a novel and long-lasting gift and the RNLI will receive £2.50
A rose named after TV gardener Chris Beardshaw has gone on sale, with £2.50 being donated to the RNLI for every rose sold.
The hybrid tea rose, with luxurious pink blooms and a sweet, sherbet-like fragrance, was bred by C&K Jones. It thrives in sunny parts of the garden, forming a medium-height bush with glossy leaves.
Chris, who specifically requested the RNLI donation, says: ‘The volunteers and members of the RNLI are the most courageous and giving of people. It amazes me that the RNLI manages to exist as a voluntary organisation, relying solely on donations to continue its work.’
Roses can be ordered from international rose specialist C&K Jones at +44 (0)1829 740663. Each bare root stock costs £12.50, plus postage and packaging.
Notes for gardeners: The best time to plant roses is in the autumn and spring, and regular dead-heading will lead to abundant single and clustered blooms from June till November.
