The Lloyd's Register Educational Trust
Ground-breaking funding of sea survival courses at The Lifeboat College

The Lloyd's Register Educational Trust is a corporate trust which exists to support activities which reinforce the safety of life throughout the world. It is solely funded by The Lloyd's Register Group whose mission as an international risk management group is to ‘enhance safety of life and property at sea, on land and in the air'. The group believes that ‘Life Matters' and helps reduce risk and protect lives throughout industry.
The LRET has donated a total of £625,000 to the RNLI since July 2007 making it the single biggest supporter of the RNLI's 'Train one, save many' cause. The donation has funded a series of sea survival courses training around 500 volunteers who have applied their skills on over 3000 shouts, rescuing hundreds of people and saving many lives.
"Since The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust first started funding the RNLI’s Sea Survival Course, volunteers who have attended the training have gone on to spend some 4,533 hours at sea in all manner of conditions, saving at least 65 lives. Like the Sea Survival course, teamwork is at the heart of our training and on behalf of the RNLI, I’d like to thank The LRET for being a vital part of our team through their funding of this essential element of our work". David Brann, Fundraising & Communications Director
Michael Franklin, Director of The LRET says: ‘We wanted to support the RNLI in saving lives at sea and crew training plays a significant role in this. The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust values the protection of life foremost and we are therefore delighted to fund the sea survival courses which safeguard lifeboat crews and ultimately saves lives.’
The RNLI is delighted to be working with an organisation that values the protection of life first and foremost. Training is vital in ensuring our volunteers are able, as well as willing, to save lives at sea in the most perilous conditions. As Gary Stanbury from Appledore Station says: ‘My wife won’t let me go to sea without the training. Without organisations like The Lloyd's Register Educational Trust, we just don’t stand a chance.’
