Swim a mile

One mile = 1,609m = 64 lengths of a standard 25m pool!
Whether you want to swim alone or part of a team, everyone can support the RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards by taking to the water for the RNLI Swim a Mile challenge! You can choose to swim whenever and wherever you wish: in your local swimming pool, in the sea, or even in a lake or river. You can also complete your mile in as many or as few sessions as you choose depending on your fitness level and fellow team members.
There is no minimum sponsorship requirement for the Swim a Mile challenge, but we encourage you to try and raise at least £50 through your swim. £74 could buy a rescue tube for use by our lifeguards, and £82 could fund a thermal suit to keep our crews warm and safe at sea. To receive your fundraising pack, simply tell us about your swim and we’ll do the rest. To make your fundraising even easier we can email you a sponsorship form or set up an online version with Virgin Money Giving.
Remember, you swim your mile at your local swimming pool or beach, over as many sessions as you/your team require. If you do choose to undertake your challenge in the sea, we strongly recommend that you select a beach with a lifeguard service and that you swim when the lifeguards are on duty.
Find a beach near you or visit www.goodbeachguide.co.uk for details of your nearest lifeguarded beach and season dates. If you plan to swim in a river or lake please visit www.outdoorswimmingsociety.com for safety and location advice.
What are you waiting for? Make a splash and raise some money for the RNLI!
