Brief History of Station


The Fishguard lifeboat station was originally established in 1822 with a lifeboat built locally, however it was taken over by the RNLI in 1855.

During this time eight RNLI silver medals were awarded for gallantry including two in 1847 to Martha and Margaret Llewellyn. These were the first RNLI medals to be awarded to women.
In 1907 the No 1 station was closed. A new slipway and boathouse were then built for the new motor lifeboat which arrived in 1909. and then in 1907 a motor lifeboat was sent to the station.

In 1994 Blue Peter VII ON 1198, a Trent class lifeboat the RNLI's newest design, was placed on service at Fishguard on 2 September. This lifeboat was the first all-weather lifeboat funded by a BBC Blue Peter Appeal.

In 1995 a D class lifeboat was placed in service. Over the years, Fishguard station has been twenty eight RNLI medals for gallantry have been awarded,
