Aircraft Crash
On Sunday 27 November 2006, Humber Coastguard, received a 999 call from a member of public, saying that they had seen a light aircraft crash in the sand, south of the Haile sand Fort off Humberston. The pilot had been practicing, cross wind landing when his front wheel had struck the soft sand, capsizing the aircraft on its back.
The Cleethorpes RNLI Lifeboat Blue Peter VI, Cleethorpes Coastguard, and The RAF Search and Rescue, Sea King Helicopter from Leconfield, were all dispatched to the incident.
Blue Peter VI arrived on scene and located the light aircraft and pilot. The aircraft’s position was passed to the Sea King Helicopter, and it landed on the beach to assess the situation with the lifeboat crew. Cleethorpes Coastguard mobile rescue unit was standing by as well as an ambulance was on stand by ready ot help if necessary.
Fortunately the Pilot had suffered no medical injuries but was concerned that his £12,000 plane was at risk of being taken away by the rising tide. The Donna Nook Coastguard mobile rescue unit attended the scene and commenced a tow of the aircraft back to the shore.
Summer flooding
In July 2007, RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews from Redcar and Cleethorpes Lifeboat Stations helped to rescue people from severely flooded areas of Hull and Grimsby. The RNLI was responding to a request for help from the Coastguard for rescue boats and crews as flood waters continued to rise after heavy rain.

Cleethorpes RNLI volunteers were called to evacuate people from The Willows Estate, Grimsby. They took the station's Blue Peter D-class lifeboat by trailer to the estate and rescued 15 people, including three children, from homes and a community centre. They took them to safety so they could warm up and dry out.
The D-class Blue Peter lifeboat is perfect for flood situations as it is small enough to avoid cars and fences hidden under the water, as well as being able to float on a low level of water.
