Other ideas to explore the theme of staying safe are:
Research marine animals who can hurt us – e.g. jellyfish or weaver fish.
Write comparison stories about one person who does an activity safely and another who doesn’t. Links to the whiteboard activity
Spot the dangers
, use this to discuss how to have fun but stay safe at the beach.
Make safety maps of a piece of a coastline showing which areas it would be safe to swim etc. Spend time looking at the different features of maps, identifying the land and sea. Talk about the different symbols and what they mean.
Discuss local tide times. Talk about being safe when walking or playing on the beach and how the tide can affect this.
