Measurement

Why it’s important for you
Test Your Knowledge allows you to assess each pupil’s knowledge & understanding of the RNLI and of sea and beach safety, but takes away the burden of marking and giving the correct answers. It gives each child the results of their test, which can then be printed off and kept for assessment recording. It also gives the pupil the correct answers once they have completed the test.

Why it’s important for us
The results of the tests allow us to monitor how our education package is improving young people’s understanding of sea safety and the work of the RNLI. It saves on paper and time, with the results being collated electronically. Each individual remains anonymous to us.

How best to use it
The test can be used before and after any work on the website, a visit from an RNLI Education Presenter, a visit to a station, or work on one of our resources. It takes no more than 30 minutes to complete, and is all in the form of multiple choice questions.

Prior to Learning: When asked ‘Are you taking the quiz for the first time’ they should click ‘yes’. The pupil is then given a unique user number, which you / they need to keep a record of. Once they have completed the test (18 questions), they are automatically sent their results, and can then look at the correct answers.

Post Learning: The pupil returns to Test Your Knowledge. When asked ‘Are you taking the quiz for the first time’ they should click ‘no’. They will then be required to enter their unique user number. They then complete the test as before, and it will give them their results. They can then compare how they did after the learning activity with before.

Download Instructions for Use and Recording Sheet
The Instructions for Use give simple to follow instructions on how to use Test your Knowledge. The recording sheet (also available in spreadsheet format) helps you to keep a record of the user number for each pupil, in order for you to be able to repeat the test once the learning activity has taken place. It also allows you to record the results of the test for each pupil, so that you have an at a glance view of pupil improvement. It is available as both a pdf and an excel spreadsheet, depending on how you would prefer to record results.
